Metal Fasteners

Poppas Most of us are familiar with this type of fastener from workwear or baby clothing. However, they can be used wherever a discreet light weight fastener is required. The use of pronged ring gives a flat inconspicuous look on both sides. However, if a more prominent finish is required a cap can be used on one side. The two popular sizes are 489 15L (9.5mm) diameter and 491 16L (10.2mm) diameter. Other sizes are available to special order. Poppas are normally made from brass although steel and stainless steel is available on some sizes. Finishes include brass, nickel, oxy black and antique brass. Turnbuttons Turnbuttons are positive locking fasteners assembled with a spring mechanism that holds the button in position until turned by hand. The buttons are available with holes for screwing or riveting to a solid base or prongs for attaching to fabric. The eyelet has four prongs for attaching through a washer. Manufactured from brass with a nickel plate finish. The 894 turnbutton and 897 eyelet and washer are also available made from stainless steel. Cutters are available to make holes for the two prong button and four prong eyelet.

‘S’ Spring Press-Fasteners Predominantly used for clothing and leather goods, this type of press-fastener has a soft action for easy release. Available in three sizes with a variety of cap diameters. ‘S’ Spring fasteners are normally made from brass although steel is available on some sizes.

Finishes include brass, nickel, oxy black and antique brass. Special finishes can also be specified as can dyeable nylon topped caps. See our machinery section for full details of setting equipment.
