BIF Rivets Bifurcated (or BIF) rivets have a split barrel and are used for self- piercing. Materials such as leather, plywood, vulcanised fibre and plastics can all be joined with bifurcated rivets. The rivet legs are bent back into the material as part of the setting process to provide a strong and relatively smooth setting.
